Total Church Day Three
Wow, the conference is over! I thank God for the contacts made during our time here. Again, I will not give a breakdown of the day - just a few random quotes… because it is getting late and I need to get some rest before our flight to Milwaukee tomorrow.
Behind every sin is a lie in the heart, and as a result we believe other things offer more than God and so we desire these other things more than God.
We can convince ourselves that we are too busy or too tired after work or that we are “all peopled out” to spend time with other people and serve them. That’s a self-centered lie - that is wanting to be God over your own little kingdom.
Another lie - If I could just get a bigger house or if I could get married or whatever … then my life would be complete. This is saying God can’t maker me complete like a house or a spouse. These offer more than God - God isn’t good enough. He is not where I find joy and meaning.
4 idols - comfort; power; approval; control
Oue role is to help people have joy and treasure Christ. We need to share life in transparent relationships. I need others to speak truth into my life every day. Once a week doesn’t do it for me!
Being in community exposes the idols of our hearts, for when you throw a bunch of sinners together and they start walking on each other’s idols.
